Hodograph analysis
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010539
A graphical technique used to visualize and interpret vertical wind shear by plotting the tips of wind vectors at different altitudes from a common origin. This method allows meteorologists to assess the potential for severe weather, such as supercell thunderstorms, by identifying patterns like curved or straight hodographs. It is a standard tool in forecasting and atmospheric research.
