Horse latitudes

Regions of subtropical high pressure located approximately between 30 and 35 degrees latitude in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. These areas are characterized by calm winds, clear skies, and little precipitation due to persistent sinking air. Historically, sailing ships would often become becalmed in these regions, leading to the name.
