Subtropical calms

Regions of persistent high atmospheric pressure and light, variable winds located around 30 degrees latitude in both hemispheres, also known as the horse latitudes. These areas are characterized by descending air, which leads to clear skies, warm temperatures, and arid conditions. Historically, sailing ships often became becalmed in these zones.
