Huggins band
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006287
A broad absorption band in the ultraviolet spectrum of sunlight, primarily caused by ozone (O3) in the Earth's stratosphere. This band extends from approximately 310 to 360 nanometers, effectively absorbing harmful UV-B radiation before it reaches the Earth's surface. The strength of the Huggins band is directly related to the total column ozone amount.
