Hypothermia
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-001353
A dangerous drop in body temperature caused by prolonged exposure to cold, where the body loses heat faster than it can produce it. In meteorology, it is a primary health risk associated with cold waves, blizzards, and exposure to cold water, often exacerbated by wind chill. A core body temperature below 35°C (95°F) is the medical threshold for hypothermia.
A rapid, progressive mental and physical collapse that accompanies the lowering of body temperature.
