Ice-crystal haze
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006443
An atmospheric condition characterized by reduced visibility due to a suspension of numerous minute ice crystals in the air. This phenomenon occurs in very cold, stable air masses, often in polar regions, where temperatures are well below freezing. Unlike fog, which consists of water droplets, ice-crystal haze is composed entirely of ice particles, which can cause optical effects like sun pillars.
