Iced firn

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006444

Firn that has undergone further densification and transformation due to the presence of meltwater that subsequently refreezes within its pore spaces. This process increases the density and strength of the firn, making it more resistant to further compaction. Iced firn represents an intermediate stage in the transformation of snow into glacial ice.
