Infrasonic observatory

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006549

A facility equipped with specialized microphones and sensors designed to detect and analyze sound waves with frequencies below the human hearing threshold, typically less than 20 hertz. These observatories monitor natural phenomena such as volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, and severe weather events, as well as anthropogenic sources like explosions. Data from these stations contribute to understanding atmospheric dynamics and global monitoring efforts.
