Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009869

Describing sound waves with frequencies above the upper limit of human hearing, typically above 20 kilohertz. In meteorology, ultrasonic sensors are used for measuring wind speed and direction, as well as for detecting precipitation. These instruments operate by emitting and receiving sound pulses, calculating wind parameters from the time of flight differences.
