Isosteric surface

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006721

A surface within a fluid where all points have the same specific volume. Since specific volume is the reciprocal of density, an isosteric surface is equivalent to an isopycnic surface. These surfaces are used in atmospheric and oceanic dynamics to analyze fluid motion and stratification.
