Solenoid
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009040
A three-dimensional curve that forms a closed loop, often used in meteorology to describe the intersection of isobaric and isosteric surfaces. In atmospheric dynamics, a solenoid represents a tube enclosing a region where pressure and density surfaces intersect. The number of solenoids within a given area indicates the baroclinicity of the atmosphere.
