Isostere
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006719
A line on a chart, or a surface in the atmosphere or ocean, connecting points of equal specific volume, the reciprocal of density. Isosteres are paired with isobars in analyzing the density field, and where isobaric and isosteric surfaces intersect they enclose solenoids whose number measures baroclinicity. Specific volume is expressed in cubic meters per kilogram.
