Leaky aquifer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-006906
A confined aquifer that exchanges water with an adjacent aquitard, allowing for vertical flow of water through the semi-permeable confining layer. This leakage can replenish the aquifer or drain it, depending on the hydraulic head difference between the aquifer and the aquitard. The rate of leakage is governed by the hydraulic conductivity and thickness of the aquitard.
