Motorboating
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007420
A low-frequency, putt-putt oscillation of a few cycles per second that appears in an amplifier or receiver when unwanted feedback through a shared power supply makes a stage swing repeatedly between high and low gain. It is heard as a motorboat-like throb in audio output and shows as slow pulsing on a signal trace. Its repetition rate falls between roughly 1 and 20 hertz.
