Nonlocal mixing
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007584
The transport of atmospheric properties, such as heat, moisture, or momentum, over distances larger than the characteristic scale of local turbulence. This process occurs when large eddies or coherent structures in the atmosphere move parcels of air across substantial vertical or horizontal gradients. It is particularly relevant in the convective boundary layer, where buoyant plumes can carry air from the surface to the top of the layer.
