Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007618
A warm, salty ocean current that flows northeastward along the coast of Norway into the Barents Sea. It originates as an extension of the North Atlantic Current, carrying relatively warm Atlantic water into the Nordic Seas and the Arctic Ocean. This current keeps Norwegian ports ice-free throughout the year and significantly moderates the climate of Scandinavia compared to other regions at similar latitudes.
