Oberwind
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007641
A local wind phenomenon characterized by a strong, dry, and warm wind that descends from mountain slopes into valleys. This wind is similar to a Foehn wind, resulting from adiabatic warming as air descends and compresses. Oberwind conditions can lead to rapid snowmelt and increased fire danger in affected regions, particularly in mountainous areas of central Europe.
