Ocean current

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007659

A continuous, directed movement of ocean water generated by forces acting upon the water, such as wind, Coriolis effect, temperature and salinity differences, and tides. These currents transport heat, nutrients, and marine organisms across vast distances, profoundly influencing regional climates and marine ecosystems. Examples include the Gulf Stream and the Kuroshio Current.
