Perlucidus
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-007862
A cloud variety characterized by an extensive patch, sheet, or layer of cloud with small, distinct, but often irregular spaces. These gaps allow the sun, moon, or the blue sky to be visible, giving the cloud sheet a translucent appearance. The perlucidus variety is applied to altocumulus and stratocumulus clouds, distinguishing them from the continuous, unbroken opacus variety where no gaps are present.
