Photoelectric photometry

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010664

The measurement of light intensity using a photoelectric device, such as a photodiode or photomultiplier tube, which converts light into an electrical current. This technique provides precise and quantitative measurements of radiant flux across different wavelengths. In atmospheric science, it is employed in instruments like sun photometers to measure atmospheric turbidity, aerosol optical depth, and the concentration of certain atmospheric gases by analyzing the attenuation of sunlight.
