Probable maximum precipitation

The theoretical maximum amount of precipitation that is physically possible over a given drainage basin for a specified duration. It is estimated by maximizing observed storm events and considering atmospheric moisture content and storm efficiency. This value is a key input for calculating the probable maximum flood.
