Rapid distortion theory
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008405
A theoretical framework used to analyze the evolution of turbulence under the influence of rapid mean flow deformations, where the time scale of the mean flow change is much shorter than the turbulent eddy turnover time. This theory simplifies the governing equations by neglecting non-linear interactions between turbulent eddies. It is applied in atmospheric boundary layer studies and in modeling turbulence in complex flows.
