Rawin target
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008419
A device attached to a free-rising balloon that allows its position to be tracked by ground-based radar or radio equipment for upper-air wind measurements. Common targets include radar reflectors, which are typically metallic corner reflectors, or small radio transmitters. The tracking data is used to calculate wind velocity at different altitudes.
