Rawinsonde

A radiosonde that is tracked by ground-based radar or radio direction-finding equipment to determine upper-air wind speed and direction, in addition to atmospheric pressure, temperature, and humidity. The instrument package is carried aloft by a weather balloon. Rawinsondes provide a vertical profile of atmospheric conditions up to altitudes of 30 kilometers or more.
