Reduction of temperature to mean sea level

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008470

The process of adjusting observed air temperatures from a station's elevation to an equivalent temperature at mean sea level, using a standard or assumed lapse rate. This procedure aims to remove the influence of topography on temperature readings for synoptic analysis. However, it is less commonly applied than pressure reduction due to the complexity of temperature lapse rates.
