Refraction coefficient
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008477
A dimensionless quantity that describes the extent to which electromagnetic waves, particularly light, are bent as they pass through the atmosphere. It is related to the vertical gradient of the refractive index of air. This coefficient is used in surveying and astronomical observations to correct for the atmospheric bending of light rays, which can cause apparent shifts in object positions.
