Screened pan
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008708
An evaporation pan that is covered with a mesh screen to reduce the effects of direct solar radiation and prevent birds or animals from drinking the water. This modification aims to provide more representative measurements of open-water evaporation, particularly in environments where direct sunlight or animal interference could skew results. The screen typically reduces evaporation by about 10-15% compared to an unscreened pan.
