Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008948

A small, loose-snow avalanche that involves only surface layers of snow and does not contain a cohesive slab. These slides are initiated at a single point and fan out as they descend, entraining more unconsolidated snow. While they pose a lower risk to people than slab avalanches, they can still knock a person off their feet and carry them into more dangerous terrain.
