Spindown time
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009142
The characteristic time scale over which a rotating fluid system, such as an atmospheric vortex or a laboratory experiment, loses its angular momentum due to friction or other dissipative forces. This process leads to a decrease in the rotational velocity. It is a key parameter in understanding the decay of atmospheric eddies and cyclones.
