Superstandard propagation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009416
An atmospheric condition where radio waves are bent downwards more strongly than under standard atmospheric conditions, allowing them to travel farther than their normal line-of-sight range. This phenomenon is caused by a decrease in the refractive index of the atmosphere with height that is greater than the standard rate. Superstandard propagation often occurs during temperature inversions, particularly over water.
