Surface trough
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009450
An elongated area of relatively low atmospheric pressure at the Earth's surface, often associated with a cyclonic curvature of the isobars or streamlines. Unlike a frontal trough, it does not necessarily separate air masses of different temperatures or humidities, but it can still be a focus for convergence, uplift, and precipitation. Surface troughs are common features on weather maps.
