Thermal wave
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009596
A periodic variation in temperature that propagates through a medium, often referring to the diurnal or annual temperature cycles in the Earth's atmosphere or soil. These waves are driven by solar radiation and heat exchange processes, with their amplitude decreasing and phase lagging with increasing depth or height. The penetration depth of a thermal wave depends on the thermal diffusivity of the medium.
