Tide gauge
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009670
An instrument that measures the changing height of the sea surface relative to a fixed reference point on land. It continuously records water levels, providing data on tidal cycles, storm surges, and long-term sea level changes. Modern gauges often use acoustic or radar sensors, while older versions relied on floats in stilling wells.
