Pressure tide gauges

Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-008135

Instruments that measure sea level by detecting changes in the hydrostatic pressure exerted by the overlying water column. These gauges are deployed on the seafloor and record pressure variations, which are then converted to water depth. They are used to monitor ocean tides, storm surges, and tsunamis, providing continuous data on sea level fluctuations.
