Water level

The height of the free surface of a body of water relative to a specific datum, such as mean sea level or a local benchmark. This measurement is used to monitor changes in rivers, lakes, oceans, and groundwater. Tidal gauges or stream gauges are instruments commonly used to record these fluctuations over time.
