Total intensity
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-009715
The total radiant energy passing through a point from a specific direction, per unit time, per unit solid angle, and per unit area perpendicular to that direction. This quantity, also known as radiance, integrates the energy contribution across all wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum. In atmospheric radiative transfer, total intensity is a fundamental property used to calculate heating rates and the overall energy balance, measured in watts per square meter per steradian (W·m⁻²·sr⁻¹).
