Unifilar electrometer
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010825
A type of electrometer that uses a single, fine conducting fiber or wire suspended in an electric field to measure small electrical charges or potentials. The deflection of the fiber, caused by electrostatic forces, is proportional to the charge or potential being measured. These instruments were historically used in atmospheric electricity studies to measure electric field strength.
