Viscous-convective subrange
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010034
A range of spatial scales in a turbulent fluid where the dissipation of temperature variance is caused by both molecular viscosity and thermal diffusivity. This subrange lies at the small-scale end of the inertial-convective subrange, just before the scales where viscous effects completely dominate thermal effects. The Batchelor scale, which characterizes the smallest eddies of a scalar field before it is smoothed out by molecular diffusion, marks the lower boundary of this subrange.
