Wave of oscillation
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010153
A type of wave where the individual particles of the medium move in a circular or elliptical path, returning to their original position after the wave passes. This motion is characteristic of surface gravity waves in deep water, where there is no net transport of water. The energy of the wave propagates horizontally, but the water itself does not.
