Wave
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010132
A disturbance that propagates through a medium or space, transferring energy without a net displacement of the medium itself. In the atmosphere, examples include planetary-scale Rossby waves, which shape global weather patterns, and smaller-scale gravity waves generated by airflow over mountains. Key properties of a wave are its amplitude, wavelength, frequency, and speed.
