Wet growth
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010214
The process by which ice particles, such as hail or graupel, grow by collecting supercooled liquid water droplets that freeze upon impact. This occurs when the ice particle's surface temperature is near 0 degrees Celsius, allowing some of the collected water to spread before freezing. It leads to the formation of clear ice layers within hailstones.
