Whistling meteor
Term · Meteorology and atmospheric science · MLC-T-MET-010227
The audible sound produced by the ionization trail of a meteor as it passes through the upper atmosphere. This sound is not the meteor itself, but rather a very low frequency (VLF) radio wave generated by the interaction of the meteor's plasma trail with the Earth's magnetic field. It can be detected by sensitive radio receivers, even when the meteor is not visually observed.
