Wind vane

An instrument that indicates wind direction, consisting of a fin or other shape mounted on a vertical axis so it can rotate freely. The fin aligns itself with the airflow, pointing into the direction from which the wind is blowing. A standard wind vane is installed 10 meters above the ground in an open area, away from obstructions that could create turbulence.
