Blanket gas
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000369
An inert gas, such as nitrogen or natural gas, maintained in the vapor space of a storage tank or vessel to prevent air ingress and reduce the risk of fire or explosion. It also minimizes product degradation by excluding oxygen and moisture, preserving the quality of stored hydrocarbons. The pressure of the blanket gas is typically maintained slightly above atmospheric pressure.
