Blast joint

A heavy-walled, abrasion-resistant tubular component installed in a production tubing string opposite perforations or other high-velocity flow areas. Its purpose is to protect the tubing from erosion caused by the high-speed flow of fluids and solids entering the wellbore. Blast joints are typically made of specialized alloys or have hardened surfaces.
