Flow coupling

A short, heavy-walled tubular section installed in a tubing string directly above and below a downhole tool, such as a packer or safety valve. Its purpose is to protect the adjacent tubing from erosion caused by turbulent fluid flow. Flow couplings are typically thicker than standard tubing to withstand abrasive wear.
