Subsurface safety valve (SSSV)

A downhole device installed in the tubing string of a producing well to automatically shut off flow in the event of an emergency, such as a surface equipment failure or uncontrolled flow. It acts as a fail-safe barrier to prevent blowouts and protect personnel and the environment. These valves are mandated by regulatory bodies for most offshore and high-pressure wells.
