Body relief valve (BRV)
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000394
A small relief valve installed on the body cavity of certain types of valves, such as ball valves, to prevent overpressure due to thermal expansion of trapped fluid. When the fluid in the closed cavity heats up and expands, the BRV opens to release the excess pressure, protecting the valve from damage. It typically reseats once pressure returns to normal.
