Surge reliever
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003709
A device specifically designed to mitigate the effects of pressure surges in pipelines by rapidly opening to discharge excess fluid and then slowly closing. Unlike a standard relief valve, a surge reliever is engineered to handle large volumes of fluid and to reclose in a controlled manner to prevent secondary pressure waves. These are commonly installed on long liquid pipelines to protect against overpressure events.
