Bow-spring centralizer
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-000436
A device with flexible, outwardly curved metal strips, or bows, that is attached to casing before it is run into a well. The bows compress against the sides of the borehole to hold the casing in the center of the hole, away from the borehole wall. This standoff creates a uniform annular space for the cement slurry to flow around the casing, resulting in a more effective and complete cement job.
